Join international master teacher and yoga educator Rocky Heron for a special weekend of study and practice surrounding the art of vinyasa.

Many of us have come to associate a sun salutation, breath-based practice with yoga. While there are many profound benefits to this typical approach, there are some limits and deficiencies as well.

In this weekend you will experience intelligent and innovative techniques to weave functional and varied movement into your vinyasa practice, enriching the efficacy of your practice without compromising its capacity to enable the flow state of consciousness. By combining the science of mobility mapping with the dance of vinyasa sequencing, we can merge the logical with the intuitive and enable a potent and transformative experience for ourselves and our students.

Vinyasa Tuneup

In this opening session we will investigate the fundamental skills that contribute to a strong and effective vinyasa practice.

Many of the movements we have come to expect in this style of practice can be further developed to ensure our vinyasa not only flows smoothly, but brings us maximum physical benefit and strength. Whether you are a seasoned practitioner or newer to the practice, this session will enhance the quality of your movements and refresh your awareness of how to balance strength and grace in your flow practice.

This Class will include pranayama, sun salutations, standing pose flows, hand balancing, and backbends, followed by live music and deep relaxation in shavasana.

Ground, Rebound, and Fly

This session explores our ability to transmit healthy and intelligent forces through our lower limbs.

When we strengthen our ranges of motion we can create the freedom and power necessary to move in diverse and playful ways. Our creative and intelligent sequence will begin by exploring hip rotation in various planes and unlocking the full possibilities of our knees and ankles. We will leverage this force into the earth and learn how to rebound and find greater buoyancy in many of the yoga poses you know and love.
After creatively dancing through new pathways of movement we will combine our increased mobility into some accessible and fun arm balances that may have previously felt elusive.

Develop a strong and functional body, expand your understanding of your own anatomy, and step outside the box to create new experiences and increased awareness for your nervous system.

Lights on!

Are you ready to awaken your asana practice and create more stability and support in your tissues and joints? If so, it’s time to turn the lights on and brighten up the clarity of your poses.

In this session we will explore innovative isometric drills that you can use to develop deeper strength, neuromuscular facility, and balance throughout your whole body. Many of the poses we practice on our mat represent full body isometric, or static, opportunities to leverage healthy global tension in diverse ways. That said, when we rely on only “alignment” cues to enhance our strength, we miss out on the power we can harness through focused, nuanced action.
Together we will make intelligent use of props to load and awaken parts of our body that often stay somewhat sleepy throughout our practice, and direct our efforts toward a more empowered experience in several backbends and hand balancing postures.

Whether you are a practitioner ready to evolve your strength capacity, a teacher looking for new ways to develop your toolkit of technique and pose knowledge, or someone recovering from older injuries ready to regain power, the drills explored in this session will light up your life! All levels welcome.

FUNKtional Flow

In this fun, funky flow, you’ll move through a somewhat familiar vinyasa sequence but take some detours outside of business-as-usual.

Our vinyasa practice, while quite diverse in its movements, is somewhat lacking in loading certain joint positions and mapping particular pathways of movement. Step outside the box a bit and play your way through some new, multi-planar and functional movements not traditionally explored. This Class will buoyantly weave through standing postures, hip openers, and accessible arm balance options.
Along the way expect to learn groundbreaking techniques to evolve your experience in a wide range of asana and transitions, all while deepening your knowledge around the mechanics of your magnificent body.

This is a great opportunity to diversify your practice within a familiar framework. Class will conclude with live music in shavasana.
